VONGAI MONICA MUJAKACHI, Your Poetry is a mouth-watering beef-biltong dipped in soul soup of simplified verbiage , astounding wit and marrow-rattling truth. Reading through your hair- raising versifications repented me once again to realize that they are daughters of this great earth born with rays of light boxed in their hearts , Poetry DNA carved onto their blood streams and likewise the blessing of a golden pen , their sickle of truth placed onto their gifted hands . Your poetry is a thud of truth reverberating red foothills of home. It is a drumbeat- throb of reason pop and cracking the minds of dozing readers . Your poetic recollections surpass your age . You are counted among the future of African Voices of Poetry . Your diligent delving into hot -soup matters of domestic violence , internal and emotional suffering , confessional poetry , psychical/emotional testimonies and your bold chronicling of COVID19 menace is a testimony that you are generational poet we can invest our confidence as our r representative of human kind. TIME OF THE POET REPUBLIC is prided in profiling Vongai Monica Mijakachi , a fast rising Zimbabwean based Artist based in Germany .ALUTA CONTINUA– ( Blurb by Mbizo CHIRASHA)
Ist das Liebe?
Even make up can’t make the pain go away.
It hides the bruises,
What of the bleeding heart?
Summer and winter my body is covered.
Hiding the tattooed scars l bear.
Front teeth missing.
I can’t even fake a smile.
Battered,broken and betrayed.
My every day meal.
Ist das Liebe?
I hate the mirror ,lt doesn’t lie.
Its honesty scares me.
I can’t stand my zombie image.
My face with many shades.
Ist das Liebe?
Once the love of my life,
Now my living horror.
He welcomes me with fists,
His goodbyes with punches.
He hits me like we are fighting.
He beats me as if l’m a thief.
Ist das Liebe?
Strange perfume and lipstick.
I ask and l’m punched.
I miss the caresses.
I miss the extinct compliments.
I miss the buried attention.
Body shaming is now his speciality.
Ist das Liebe?
Mother don’t tell me to be strong.
Aunt don’t tell me to hold on.
Sister don’t tell me its part of the story.
Friend don’t tell me they are all like that.
For l have breathed in hell.
And l have had enough!
Is this love?
If it is l don’t want it.
If it is ,l choose life over death.
If it is, l choose happiness over misery.
I was a coward,l kept quiet.
Not anymore!
I long for my freedom.
And its time , l shout “help!”
For in your hands l won’t die.
Not anymore will l be your punching bag.
Not anymore will l lie and hide the bruises.
I am a woman and deserve to be treated human!
ALL ALONE
Blame games l will not play.
Excuses l won’t entertain.
Forgiving myself is the way.
My past l won’t replay.
Crying won’t bring a change.
Only you now make my day.
All alone for my mistakes l will pay.
I let them all down.
But l won’t give you up.
A mistake you are not!
Just an unexpected blessing.
All alone for now
Soon we will be together .
The journey begins.
Let’s count up to nine
LIKE WIND
We were happy
Mapping our lives forward
Finding solutions for everyday’s challenges
Sweating so we could harvest
When the fire started
We were all at ease
It seemed so faraway
Look at us now
The whole world is ablaze
Lockdown,shutdown, stay home
That’s the chorus of every nation
Oh it hearts losing beloved ones
Who knew coughing one day will take this turn
Coughing ,all happiness drained
Sadly we now have widows and orphans
The virus is still not satisfied!
Everything is on hold
Aeroplanes no one can board
No work,no events,nothing
We need something
Something to put an end to Corona
All we need is faith
All we need is to pray
God’s time is the best
Fear is not the way
Hope we should spread
For like wind
Covid 19 will pass away
